Link previews

What we check

Link previews — the card that appears when a link is pasted into a chat app, a social network, or an answer engine — come from Open Graph tags in the page’s head. On your home page we look for og:title (0.3 of the score), og:description (0.3), and og:image (0.4), each present and not empty.

The image has to work: its address must be complete (starting with https://) and it must load as an image. We fetch it once to make sure. If the tag is there but the address is relative or the image doesn’t load, it counts for half.

Why it matters

A link with no preview is a bare URL, and people skip it. Answer engines and chat apps that show sources use the same tags: the title and picture are how your site looks when an AI assistant cites you. A missing og:image means a link to your site shows no picture at all.

How to pass

Set all three on the home page (and ideally on every page), with an image at least 1200 × 630 pixels and an absolute URL:

<meta property="og:title" content="Example — Project management for studios">
<meta property="og:description" content="Example keeps design studios’ projects, clients, and invoices in one place.">
<meta property="og:image" content="https://example.com/og.png">

Most site builders and SEO plugins have a “social sharing” image setting that writes these for you.
