An about page
What we check
We look on your home page for a link to an about page: one whose text or address mentions about, who, team, company, or story. Only links to your own site count. We follow up to two such links, and the check passes if one loads and has at least 200 characters of text.
For a personal site, a bio on the home page itself counts instead: a section headed “About” or “Bio” with at least 400 characters in it.
Why it matters
When someone asks an AI assistant “who’s behind Example?” or “is Example legit?”, the about page is where the answer comes from. It’s the one page whose whole job is to say who you are, what you do, and for whom — in your own words, rather than pieced together from a footer and a pricing table.
Sites without one leave the assistant to guess, or to quote whoever else has described you.
How to pass
- Write a page that says who you are, what you do, and who it’s for. A few honest paragraphs are plenty: who started it and when, where you are, what you make, and who uses it.
- Give it an address and link text a machine will recognize, such as
/aboutand “About”. - Link it from the home page — the navigation or the footer is fine:
<a href="/about">About</a>
